Anna Gelderd has been selected as Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for South East Cornwall

Anna lives on the Rame Peninsula and is currently a Senior Adviser at a leading conservation charity. She has spent her career helping others, and has worked for some of Britain’s leading charities including the RNLI.

Speaking on her selection, Anna Gelderd said;

“I am delighted to have been selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for South East Cornwall. I live and work here in the constituency and I can’t imagine a more incredible place to represent.

“Sadly our beautiful part of the world has been forgotten by Westminster. We have been let down by the current Conservative MP and I know that more of us will be better off under a Labour Government.

“If elected as your MP, I will work with the next Labour Government to help people here struggling with the Conservative’s cost of living crisis, protect our local environment, reduce our NHS waiting times and help our communities take advantage of the brilliant new opportunities for jobs and growth in industries such as clean energy.”

“It’s time for change, in this country, and in this constituency. And I will be working hard, listening to local people and earning your trust that Labour can deliver for South East Cornwall.”

Cllr Kate Ewert, Councillor for the Rame Peninsula is backing Anna Gelderd to win for Labour. Kate says “Anna is exactly the champion in Westminster that people here need. She is rooted in our community and I’ve seen how her values, national experience and genuine care for others shines through in everything she does. Labour can win here, and I am encouraging the people of South East Cornwall to vote for Anna when the next General Election comes.”

Latest polling from Electoral Calculus shows that Labour is on track to win South East Cornwall at the next General Election, and confirms that the Labour Party is the only party that can beat the Conservatives here.
A recent poll from the Country Land and Business Association (CLA)  and Survation, suggests that nationally Tories are fighting to keep their rural heartlands in England, and rural voters are more likely to back Labour than the Tories at the next election following a huge swing to the Left in traditionally true blue territory.
